Meeting of the Portuguese Polar Community

The XVII Portuguese Conference of Polar Sciences was held in Lisbon from 14–15 November. The meeting provided an opportunity for Irina and Ksenija to share their first results from the SOC cruise, for Matilde to present her master’s thesis, and to foster connections within the Portuguese polar community.

Discussion meeting about Global impacts of climate extremes in the polar regions, weather Antarctica is reaching a tipping point, and what the consequences of passing the treshold would imply for the global climate, held 29-30 Sept 25.

Succesful AntarcticaInSync workshop

Antarctica InSync Science Planning Workshop was held from 3rd to 6th November 2025 at ESA-ESRIN in Frascati, Italy. It brougt together over 100 participants representing national Antarctic programs, research institutes, universities, international organisations, and space and governmental agencies.

Graduation of Master Student - University of Aveiro, Portugal

Matilde Rafacho defended her thesis on aerosol-cloud interactions and wind-wave dynamics, with experience in numerical weather prediction, atmospheric reanalysis, and remote sensing. She successfully obtained her master degree in Marine and Atmpspheric studies from the University of Aveiro.

Team at 2025 EGU - General Assembly, Vienna

Four AMARANT researchers participated in EGU25, presenting their work in interdisciplinary sessions on clouds, moisture, and precipitation in Polar Regions, as well as atmospheric river sessions.Their contributions focused on understanding the sources, processes, and impacts of these critical climate factors.

Participation in Workshop on Polar Winter Climate and Processes - BAS, UK

Two AMARANT researchers participated in a workshop focused on exploring the winter season in Antarctica to gain a more comprehensive understanding of the entire climate system of Antarctica.
